Go to the auction click here

The Holleman Brothers are offering 16 summer and late bred youngsters from their best breeders and top racing pigeons for the marathon races. This auction is the first time that the Holleman brothers are auctioning young birds from their strong strain of marathon birds. The youngsters on offer were bred from birds that have previously bred birds that recorded Teletext positions, but also youngsters from their other crack racers. For the buyers, a great opportunity to strengthen their lofts with birds who descend from a marathon loft that has been performing for years and where the bar is always pushed to greater heights.

All of the 16 youngsters on offer are descendants of the current top breeder of the Holleman Bros.: the Jellema cock (see below). In the auction: 4 children, 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Of course cross bred with the very best material of the Holleman Brothers themselves!

The current best breeding cock of the Holleman Brothers is the Jellema Cock (direct Jelle Jellema).

Holleman Bros. (www.gebrholleman.nl)

The partnership of the Holleman Bros. consists of the brothers Eddie (1971) and André (1965) from Tienhoven. For almost 20 years they have been racing the marathon races that are on the program of Federation 7, Midden Nederland. In the early years they raced alias the name of the Holleman Brothers, later on they raced individually but since 2012 once again using the name Holleman Brothers. A period that many excellent results were recorded from the marathon races. The most striking detail of their results is: early prizes in combination with a high prize percentage. Every season the Holleman bros. are to be found among the regional and Provincial champions. Significant is the fact that Eddie and André were each other’s biggest rivals in the years that they raced individually. On several occasions they finished 1st and 2nd in the Marathon championships in the region. In the National championships there were also some top positions captured in the discipline of Marathon racing. In the Fondspiegel Ranking other top positions were also recorded.

St. Vincent-specialists

Although the birds of the brothers perform well from all marathon races, their favourites tend to display what they are capable of in the National race from St. Vincent (distance: 1.031 km.). For many a year, they clocked early birds from St. Vincent and often there were high prize percentages recorded. The best results were frequently recorded in the toughest St. Vincent editions. By racing their best pigeons from St. Vincent and thoroughly selecting them for that race, means that they have anchored down the distance suitability and ability to arrive early during tough conditions into the Holleman pigeon. In Section 3 the following good prizes were recorded from St. Vincent: 2nd-4th-15th-16th-19th-20th-25th-28th-38th-42nd-45th-47th-55th-60th etc. Below are some of the best St. Vincent results.

In the years that the Fondspiegel rankings were very popular, several Top-10 positions in the yearly Fondspiegel ranking of the National afternoon liberations were won. In the new Fondspiegel formula (TopPigeons) the Holleman Brothers got a very nice 2ndplace in category 3 in 2014 (Nat. St. Vincent 9 of the 12, Nat. Perigueux 7 of the 14 (only yearlings) and Nat. Cahors 15 of the 18). André succeeded in the period from 2004 to and including 2008 to finish three times in the top of the 3-year Fondspiegel ranking of the National afternoon liberations.

2004 t/m 2006:                 12th (André.

2005 t/m 2007:                 4th (André).

2006 t/m 2008:                 5th (André).

Strain origin

The strain of the Holleman Brothers is based on just a few birds. That is why most of their birds are related to each other. During the last years, only a small number of new birds have been added to the strain. Here below a description of the 3 basis lines.

A hen they acquired from fellow club member Kees Bakker in 1995 played a major part in the strain. This hen, 1992-1244842, was purchased as late bred by Kees Bakker in 1992 off Ben Kooijman from Vianen. The 1992-1244842 was a crossbred of the birds of Hein Oostenrijk x Van der Wegen (Eijerkamp). Via 2 of her sons (half-brothers) the genes for the tough races were passed on to the next generations. One half-brother, 1997-1524371 named the (‘Grote Boot’), was sired by an Aarden-cock of Bram Boot from Leerdam (via fellow club member Peter Koekman) and was bred by the Holleman Bros. themselves. In 1999 the ‘Grote Boot’ won in a tough race the 23rd Nat. Dax with a velocity of 849 m/m. The ‘Grote Boot’ bred several children who won top positions in National/NPO-races: 8th-12th-15th-26th-39th etc. Alongside that the ‘Grote Boot’ is sire to the stock hen 2004-2051341. This hen, paired to different cocks bred teletext and ace pigeons. The other half-brother, 1995-1944725 (the ‘725’), was sired by a bird directly from Ben Kooijman and was bred and raced by fellow club member Kees Bakker. After his racing career this cock was placed in the stock loft of the Holleman Brothers. A daughter of the ‘725’, the 2008-1539940, won her best prize with a 2nd National St. Vincent 2010 in Sector 3. A grandson raced by a club friend of the brothers won a 7th National Bergerac 2011 in Sector 3 (morning liberation). In most of the birds of the brother we see those half-brothers in the pedigree.

The second most important addition was a 2007 cock from Jelle Jellema. Via some family of Jelle a visit to the lofts in Steggerda (at the time) was planned in the summer of 2007 by the brothers and they went home with 2 summer bred youngsters. One of the Jellema birds, the 2007-1187377 (‘Jellema Cock), was paired to the 2004-2051341 (daughter of the 1997-1524371 ‘Grote Boot’). It resulted in a super pair who were responsible for the birth of numerous crack pigeons. Some of the results were teletext positions at a National/NPO level: 4th-7th-12th-14th-19th etc. The best descendant of the super couple if the hen with ring number 2010-1684037 who won 9 good prizes from the marathon races. Her best prizes: 4th National St. Vincent 2014 Sector 3 and 12th National Albi 2012 Sector 3. In both of those races a full sister of hers, the 2010-1684001, was the second arrival of the loft: St. Vincent: 45th National and Albi 65th National.

The current best stock bird of the Holleman Brothers is the Jellema Cock (direct Jelle Jellema).

The most recent addition to the strain of the brother regards a hen that they bred themselves in 2012. This hen, the 2012-1614533, was bred from a 100 % Ko van Dommelen cock (grandson Straaloog Hulk X ‘t Zwartbontje Pau and the Polderman X ‘t halfzusje 1stNat. Dax). The dam to the 12-533 came directly from the loft of Jan Ouwerkerk and was bred from a son of the ‘55’ (03-455) X ‘Saartje’ (05-104) paired to a daughter of the ‘59’ (06-859) X ‘Super Blauwtje’ (07-190) of Rik Ros. The ‘Super Blauwtje’ was crowned for the years 2009 - 2011 the 1st Ace Pigeon Bordeaux/Agen ZLU (raced by Rik Ros). The 2012-1614533 paired to a cock that is 75% “own” sort, the 2012-1614513, has bred 3 different birds that won: 8th Nat. Orange 2015 (morning liberation), 6th NPO St. Vincent 2016 and 20th NPO Bergerac 2016.
